Clype is a Scottish word meaning to tell-tale, inform on someone, tattle, snitch or grass up. It is also spelt clipe.
Doric Phrases think that it a more generic word used throughout Scotland, rather than having its roots in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, or the North East.
It shouldn't be confused with the Doric word Claik, which translates as gossip or gossiping.
